National Breast Cancer Foundation

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is a successful charitable organization that promotes awareness for breast cancer as well as early detection of the disease itself. While the National Breast Cancer Foundation has only been around for less than two decades, it has and continues to raise untold sums of money through various events and campaigns that involve participation from both average citizens and celebrities world wide. The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded by an individual who was diagnosed with the disease at an early age. The original purpose of this breast cancer foundation was to urge people, especially women, to go for mammograms. Many breast cancer awareness advocates claim that routine mammograms are the best way to prevent casualties caused by the disease, because the procedure can identify it during early stages. While National Breast Cancer Foundation fundraisers are held year round, the most successful events and campaigns are usually during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded by a woman named Janelle Hail in 1991. Janelle Hail was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was in her mid thirties. The fact that she had no family history of this disease added to her frustration and concern. She was able to beat the disease because it was detected during the early stages. More than a decade after her battle with breast cancer, she formed what would become a word wide successful breast cancer foundation. Her knowledge of the importance of routine mammograms inspired her to start the National Breast Cancer Foundation. She attributed her ability to beat the disease mainly to the early detection of it. Therefor, she made it hear ultimate goal to encourage all women to have this procedure done on at least a yearly basis.

The success of this breast cancer foundation is in large part due the support and recognition it gets world wide. One of the the breast cancer foundation's most popular and successful fundraisers is called the Pink Ribbon Challenge. The event is advertised by radio stations and supported by many celebrities. The Pink Ribbon Challenge works by supporting radio stations posting a pink ribbon logo link on their official websites. Visitors who click on the link are sent to the official breast cancer website where they can click on another identified link which will result in donations to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The donations made from the Pink Ribbon Challenge go towards funding mammograms for women who cannot afford them. This program is one of many fundraisers that make this breast cancer foundation so successful

Janelle Hail's passion to raise awareness about breast cancer has resulted in an increase in annual mammograms since the breast cancer foundation's inception nineteen years ago. In the last decade, The National Breast Cancer Foundation earned Charity Navigator's highest rating for an unprecedented three years in a row. That, along with numerous other achievements proves how successful the organization has become and how important early detection of breast cancer is to many people around the world.
